Professor Lucas Lepri explains how to pass an opponent’s spider and lasso guard when he cannot cause his opponent to release the sleeve grip in the lasso. Lucas circles his hand outside of the opponent’s legs and punches down. From there, Lucas walks in the direction of the spider grip and uses his knee to push his opponent’s leg down and circle his arm to remove the foot from his bicep. As soon as the opponent releases the spider grip on Lucas’ sleeve, Lucas drops his knees on either side of the leg, keeping his knees together. He immediately falls to his hip as he applies a cross face, and steps back to clear the opponent’s leg. From here he lowers his head and completes the pass to side control.
