Professor Lucas Lepri teaches how to prevent the opponent from sweeping or transitioning to a submission form the spider guard. The opponent starts in the spider guard and then releases one sleeve so he can grip the lapel. He then pulls Lucas to unbalance so he can sweep or transition to a submission. Lucas immediately reacts by posting on the mat with his hand and walks to the side pulling the opponent’s leg down. He then moves to the other side and grips the arm as he transitions. From here, Lucas uses pressure to make the opponent break the grips. He then transitions to the side control or the back take, depending on the opponent’s reaction.
