Professor Lucas Lepri shows how to secure and apply the Kimura submission from side control. Lucas begins in side control with the opponent framing his neck. He passes his arm behind the opponent's triceps, moves into north-south position, leans forward to isolate the arm, and secures the Kimura grip. If Lucas is unable to break the opponent's defensive grip, then he steps over the opponent and falls back to the mat. From this point Lucas can extend his body to free the arm and apply the Kimura submission, or, if the opponent has a very strong grip, he uses his leg behind the opponent's neck to push and force the opponent to roll. He then sits on the opponent with his toes in the mat and applies the Kimura submission.
