Professor Lucas Lepri teaches how to take the opponent down using an ankle pick, after first attempting an Uchi Mata throw. Lucas and the opponent start standing and Lucas is controlling the collar and sleeve. He removes the grip on the sleeve so he can use that hand to break the opponent’s sleeve grip on the side Lucas has the collar grip. He breaks the grip and secures the opponent’s arm against his own chest to prevent the opponent from pulling it back. Lucas releases his grip on the collar and immediately goes under the opponent’s arm to grip the cross collar. He brings the opponent in and moves them around. When the timing is right, Lucas takes a slight step forward and kicks his inside leg in between the opponent’s legs to raise the opponent up. In this variation, instead of throwing the opponent with the leg, Lucas brings his leg back down and places it behind the opponent’s far side foot. He then leans down to grip the ankle and pulls the leg to take the opponent down. From here, Lucas then works on passing to the side control.
