Butterfly Guard Pass to Side Control (Fundamentals)

Description

Professor Lucas Lepri shows how to go pass an opponent’s butterfly guard, to the side control position. Lucas makes sure to keep his knees close to the opponent and places his chest on him, while gripping the sides of the Gi. This way the opponent can’t create space. Lucas traps one of the opponent’s leg, opposite to the direction Lucas is looking. He traps the leg bringing his own leg out and places his upper thigh against the opponent’s shin. Once the leg is trapped, Lucas uses the same side elbow to push the opponent’s knee down so he can bring his knee over the leg. Lucas switches his base, brings his other leg over and establishes the side control.
