Professor Lucas Lepri shows how to get an armbar submission from the closed guard while using the lapel control to get to the armbar. Lucas starts with the opponent in his closed guard and reaches for the cross collar grip. He uses his other hand to go under the opponent’s same side arm and reaches for the lapel. He pulls it out and wraps it over the opponent’s triceps, switches his grips from the collar to the lapel and grips the arm with the other hand trapping the opponent’s arm. Lucas then releases the grip on the arm and reaches for the cross collar, he then opens his guard and places his foot on the hip and brings his other knee close to the opponent’s shoulder. Once the opponent tries to defend by pushing on Lucas, Lucas pushes the opponent with the cross collar grip and brings the leg that was on the hip over the opponent’s head. He then brings his other leg over to lock his legs together. Lucas from this position can finish the armbar. If the opponent defends by grabbing his own bicep and Lucas’ leg, Lucas slides his forearm down from above the opponent's wrist breaking the opponent’s grip. Lucas then hugs the arm and finishes the armbar.
