Professor Lucas Lepri teaches how to take the back control from the closed guard. Lucas starts with the opponent in his closed guard. He grips one of the opponent’s sleeve over the top with both hands. He pushes the arm up to break the grip on the collar. Lucas now circles the opponent’s arm under both his own arms. He releases one grip and uses his free hand to grip the same side arm behind the elbow. Lucas now pushes the arm across. The grip from behind the elbow is now released and Lucas reaches over the opponent’s back to grip the other side near the armpit. He now open’s his guard and hip escapes to adjust. In this variation, the opponent bases out with his leg preventing Lucas from pulling him back to take the back. Lucas comes up on this bottom elbow and unlocks his legs. He puts one leg in between the opponents and starts to move his hip onto the opponent’s back. Once he is up, he slides his other hook in and hooks the back of the opponent’s leg. From here, Lucas is able to pull the opponent back and finishes taking the back control.
