Professor Lucas Lepri shows a variation of the back take from the X-Guard sweep. As in the previous technique, Lucas begins in the De La Riva and transitions to the X-Guard when the opponent attempts to escape from the De La Riva guard. In this situation, Lucas is unable to sit up and sweep the opponent because the opponent is gripping Lucas’ far leg, keeping it up in the air. Lucas reacts by lifting the opponent’s leg with the pants grip in order to escape his own leg as he brings the opponent down between his legs, extending the far leg to maintain the bottom hook. Now Lucas adjusts his grips and inserts the top hook in order to complete the back take.
