Professor Lucas Lepri teaches how to escape from a position where the opponent is in the half guard and attempting to pass to mount. Lucas has the opponent in his half guard as they are trying to pass. The opponent maintains top pressure and isolates Lucas’s arm. In this scenario, Lucas can’t use his free hand to push the opponent's leg off. He instead grips the outside leg with that hand and bridges. As he bridges, he is able to hook the opponents outside leg with his own. He now uses his inside hand to grip the back of the opponent. The opponent reacts by shifting his weight to the other side. This repositioning frees up Lucas’s other hand. Lucas now shifts his hips towards the opponent and starts bumping the opponent to create space where he can now push on the opponents hips, while controlling the back with his outside hand. Lucas keeps bumping the opponent until his head is around the chest level of the opponent. He now feeds the opponent's lapel to the hand that was initially gripping the back. Lucas now switches the hooks on the opponent's legs and then under hooks the outside leg with his inside arm. This puts Lucas in the position where he can bridge on his shoulder to pull the opponent back and over to sweep him.
