Professor Lucas Lepri teaches how to prevent the opponent from transitioning to the lapel control by defending as soon as they go for the lasso. The opponent goes for the lasso and Lucas immediately places his hand on the belt to avoid the opponent from moving their hips. The other hand is used to grip the toes of the lasso leg. Lucas now moves back and pushes the leg down and to the side. He moves in and uses his near side leg to pin the opponent’s leg. He steps with his knee across and leg drags the leg. In this scenario, the opponent tries to push Lucas off by framing with the arms. Lucas takes advantage of this and under hooks the far side arm and moves to the side control. The opponent tries to roll away and Lucas takes the back control.
