Professor Lucas Lepri teaches how to pass when the opponent has the open guard with lapel and collar control. This defense can be used when the opponent is in the close guard or open guard. Lucas starts defending by maintaining the grip on the collar and maintains his weight on the chest. The other hand is used to grip the far side leg near the knee. He starts to walk the side so he can bend his knee and slide the foot out. He then starts to walk all the way around to the other side, pushing the leg down and going for the knee cut to pass.
