Professor Lucas Lepri teaches how to pass when the opponent has the open guard with lapel and collar control. This defense can be used when the opponent is in the close guard or open guard. Lucas starts defending by maintaining the grip on the collar and maintains his weight on the chest. The other hand is used to grip the far side leg near the knee. In this variation, the opponent slides his knee in, preventing Lucas from moving to the side. Lucas now switches the grip to the other leg and the grip on the collar is moved to the near side leg. Lucas pushes both legs down and starts walking back to the north south position. From here, Lucas maintains the north south position.
