Professor Lucas Lepri explains what to do when an opponent prevents him from executing the sweep shown in the previous technique. Like in the previous technique, Lucas begins in the open guard and transitions so he is underhooking the opponent’s leg with the lapel grip. As he uses his free leg to pendulum in preparation for sitting up, the opponent resists the motion and puts his weight back. Lucas follows the opponent’s motion and executes a back roll, completing the sweep. From here there are a variety of options, but in this situation Lucas transitions to side control.
