Professor Lucas Lepri shows how to open the opponent’s closed guard and pass to the side control. Lucas starts by placing both hands on the opponent’s hips. He grips the pants and pushes down. One knee is placed behind the opponent’s legs while the opposite is extended out to open the closed guard. Once the guard is open, Lucas starts to pass by reaching with both hands under the opponent’s legs. One hand is used to grip the collar while the other grips the back of the opponent’s pants. Lucas now stacks the opponent making him turn away so he can then go to the side control.
