Professor Lucas Lepri explains how to surprise an opponent and sweep him backwards when he defends against the ankle push sweep from sit-up guard. Lucas begins in De La Riva guard and then establishes the sit-up guard with his torso tight to the opponent's leg. Lucas keeps tension on the sleeve and grips as high as possible on the opponent's collar. Sensing the sweep attempt, the opponent holds Lucas' lapel and straightens his posture to prevent the ankle push sweep. In response, Lucas extends his leg and hooks his ankle behind the opponent's heel while pushing his chest to topple the opponent backwards. Lucas then comes up on top where he can apply the knee cut pass or else block the opponent's knee with his chin and execute the folding pass to side control.
