Professor Lucas Lepri teaches a variation on how to get the kimura or armbar after attempting to go for the north south position and the opponent defends. The opponent has the spider guard and Lucas starts to pass by circling one arm in and grips the pants. He now pushes both legs to the side and starts moving to the north south position. In this scenario, the opponent prevents Lucas from obtaining the position by sitting up. Lucas releases a grip on the pants so he can post on the mat. One leg is brought over the opponent’s head and the other underneath. Lucas locks his legs together and can get the kimura from this position. If the opponent bridges to escape, Lucas then slides his bottom leg out and goes for the armbar.
