Professor Frederico Silva teaches how to get an armbar, after attempting an omoplata starting from the open guard. Frederico starts with the spider guard and then goes for the de la riva. He pushes on the opponent's hip to create space so he can loop his foot over the arm to get the lasso. Frederico is now in the de la riva with the lasso. The de la riva grip on the pants is now moved to the cross collar. Frederico now uses his feet to push the opponent away. The opponent maintains the grip near the waist, so Frederico uses his the de la riva side foot to push on the shoulder and breaks the opponents grip. He now pulls the opponent's arm in on the side he had the lasso. Once he pulls the arm in, he brings his leg over it and locks his legs together to lock in the Omoplata. In this scenario, Frederico is not able to finish the omoplata. He maintains control of the arm and now slides his arm under the arm for better control. He now unlocks his legs so he can post on the mat to reposition by bringing his inside knee down. Frederico then re-locks his legs together and gets the armbar. If the opponent attempts to escape by rolling forward, then he can switch to a regular armbar.
