Closed Guard Sweep Attempt to Armbar Submission (Fundamentals)

Professor Lucas Lepri shows a transition from a closed guard sweep attempt to an armbar. Lucas has the opponent in his closed guard and makes sure to grip the opponent’s sleeve with one hand. He then uses his legs to bring the opponent towards him and then reaches with his other hand underneath the opponent’s leg and hooks it with his arm. As he reaches for the leg, he opens his guard and twists his hips to the side. He tries to sweep the opponent but he postures up preventing Lucas from getting the sweep. Lucas instead brings his free leg over the opponent’s neck, releases the grip on the leg and grabs the opponent’s arm with both hands. He then raises his hips, pulls on the arm and gets the armbar submission.
